Northwest Edmonton Real Estate:
Community of Lorelei

In the midst of the oil industry boom of the 1970s, Edmonton saw a significant expansion of its borders. In 1971, the City of Edmonton made the decision to annex the entire Castle Downs and Lake District area in order to accommodate the growing population. Following the subdivision of the land, development of the residential neighbourhoods in the Castle Downs area began and continued throughout the 1980s.

Lorelei Homes: Styles & Pricing

The neighbourhood plan for Lorelei was officially approved in 1975, paving the way for residential development to take place primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. Today, Lorelei stands as a fully developed community, bordered by Castle Down Road, 97th Street, Beaumaris Road, and 160 Avenue. The naming of the Castle Downs area was a deliberate choice by the developer, who sought to pay homage to famous castles with the naming of subdivisions and neighbourhoods. Lorelei, in particular, draws its name from a renowned castle site located along the Rhine river in Germany.

Buyers looking to call Lorelei home will find a diverse array of home styles to choose from, catering to a wide range of preferences and needs. Single-family homes are prominent in the neighbourhood, making up slightly over half of the available properties. These detached homes come in various styles, including two-story houses, bungalows, bi-levels, and split-levels. Many of these residences have undergone recent renovations, boasting upgraded features and finishes that appeal to modern homeowners. For those looking for more budget-friendly options, townhomes represent approximately a quarter of the housing options in Lorelei. These townhomes typically offer three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and can be priced as affordably as $150,000. Furthermore, there are a limited number of low-rise apartment-style condos and duplexes scattered throughout the neighbourhood. With such a broad range of home styles and prices, Lorelei provides prospective buyers with ample choices to find the perfect property to suit their needs and preferences.
