It used to be considered on the edge of the city, but is now considered a centrally located community. Argyll History
Argyll’s history dates back to its establishment in the 1950s. It was originally called Edmonton City Heights but was renamed Argyll in honour of Sir Douglas Sutherland Campbell who was the ninth Duke of Argyll and Marquess of Lorne. Over the years, Argyll has evolved into a family-oriented community known for its friendly and tight-knit atmosphere.
Argyll Schools and Amenities
Argyll does not have any public schools within the community itself, but there are four designated schools to the area.
- Hazeldean School (K-6): Which is located at 6715 97 Street NW and runs programs such as Interactions, Pre-Kindergarten and a regular program.
- McKernan School (7-9): Located at 11330 76 Avenue NW and runs programs such as Academic Enrichment, French Immersion, Late French Immersion, Regular Program and Spanish Bilingual.
- Allendale School (7-9): Located at 6415 106 Street NW and runs Cogito, German Bilingual, Interactions, and Regular Programming. It currently is at growth control model of Level 2, which means the school is nearing its capacity.
- Strathcona School (10-12): Located at 10450 72 Avenue NW, and runs Advanced Placement, Community Learning Skills/Connections, German Bilingual, Regular Program, and Spanish Bilingual.

Local Amenities
Argyll offers a wide range of amenities for people of all ages. The community is surrounded by beautiful parks and green areas, including Argyll Park and Avonmore Park, which are perfect for family picnics, playground fun, and friendly get-togethers. On the East side of the community, there is a well-known tobogganing hill with a ravine slope. Outdoor enthusiasts will also appreciate the nearby Mill Creek Ravine, which provides extensive walking and biking trails. Golf lovers will find Riverside Golf Course and Victoria Golf Course conveniently close by, offering stunning views for a great game.
Another great advantage of this community is the presence of a district-level outdoor sports park. Here, many people engage in activities like softball, baseball, rugby, and soccer. Access to the community of Argyll is by one main road, 66 Avenue NW, which means this community maintains a quiet atmosphere. There is one regular daytime bus route and one peak hour service bus route, with many children traveling by bus to attend school. With access to main thorough fares such as Whitemud Drive directly to the south you can easily travel to many areas of the city.
Argyll also boasts a vibrant community association, Argyll Community League, that actively organizes events and activities for residents to participate in. From sports leagues and community clean-ups to seasonal festivals, there are numerous opportunities for neighbours to connect. As a resident of the community you are automatically members of the league and are not required to pay a membership fee. Having a membership enables you to enjoy Community league family swimming at Commonwealth Recreation Centre for free for a designated two hour period, and many other activities.
